A Cypriot warning

So finally the creditors are getting punished. A levy on those who lent Cypriot banks money is being charged, but still below the charge they should bear.

The Euro zone crisis is entering a new phase, and the general public may just start realising what is at stake - their wealth.

Clearly the EU has decided to make an example of Cypriot creditors.

The impact of that message remains to be seen.

My guess on Cameron's latest EU tease

What you need to remember with David Cameron is that he has default techniques for dealing with problems.

His standard approach to things he is going to be forced to do ( by the Lib Dems, EU, Sam & the right of his party ) is to PREEMPT.

He is especially keen on this approach when his hand is being forced by an unpopular organisation like the EU. ( Examples ? Pledging to leave EPP group, the pasty tax and the Lib Dems anti marriage plan to end its meaning ).

Just over a day or so we heard there would be no UK powers transferred with the next step to the oligarchical super state that is to replace democracy in Europe ( they of course give it another name ).

Now we hear a referendum of some sort is on the cards - what is he preempting ?

Clearly he's been told the EU must be given more of our sovereignty and democracy and he trying the usual PR tricks to "handle it".

The EU referendum is unlikely to satisfy

Its been almost an article of faith amongst Eurosceptics that an In/Out Referendum would be won by those who wish the UK to regain its sovereignty.

This is certainly the assumption of the Conservative, Labour and preserve us the Lib Dems. They know saying there will be referendum is popular ( so they have some have been happy to promise one of sorts on Lisbon ), but they have feared letting us have one.

But the damn may not be able to be held back much longer. UKIP is looking like ensuring there can be no majority Conservative future govt. The Euro has made the Lib Dems euro-quisling stance very toxic indeed. And even Labour senses the tactical opportunity to light the blue touch paper for Tory self destruction by committing to one.

But would it be won ?

Here is where I have doubts. I think the public want to leave the EU, but may be too scared to do so.

Bad economic news and fear may make the voter cling to nurse for fear of what may be worse.

And all this talk of referendums from the Conservatives, Lib Dems & Labour I think means that they have sensed this is likely to be the outcome also.

After all Ireland just voted for Euro slavery - again.

Those who want our country to regain its independence may have to think beyond a defeat in a referendum. Eggs need to be in more than one basket here.

Saying No to reinforcing hopeless situations

The last time it was necessary to say no to sending good resources into a hopeless situation.

It looks like George Osborne has learnt this lesson from the Euro. We have the Germans suddenly wanting to be all chummy with us so that we will sell out children into more debt to provide more money to burn on the Euro bonfire.

The time has come to say No and to keep repeating it.

Let Nick Clegg take his fortune and fat Euro pension and burn it on the funeral pyre of  the Euro - no other British tax payers should be required to.

HEADQUARTERS FIGHTER COMMAND ROYAL AIR FORCE,  BENTLEY PRIORY,  STANMORE,  MIDDLESEX.  SECRET                                                      May 16,1940   Sir,               I have the honour to refer to the very serious calls which have recently been made upon the Home Defence Fighter'Units in an attempt to stem the German invasion on the Continent.   2,         I hope and believe that our Armies may yet be victorious in France and Belgium,  but we have to face the possibility that they may be defeated.   3.         In this case I presume that there is no-one who will deny that England should fight on,  even though the remainder of  the Continent of Europe is dominated by the Germans.   4.         For this purpose it is necessary to retain some  minimum fighter strength in this country and I must request that  the Air Council will inform me what they consider this minimum  strength to be,  in order that I may make my dispositions accordingly.   5.         I would remind the Air Council that the last estimate which they made as to the force necessary to defend this country  was 52 Squadrons,  and my strength has now been reduced to the  equivalent of 36 Squadrons.   6.         Once a decision has been reached as to the limit on  which the Air Council and the Cabinet are prepared to stake the  existence of the country,  it should be made clear to the Allied  Commanders on the Continent that not a single aeroplane from  Fighter Command beyond the limit will be sent across the Channel, no matter how desperate the situation may become.   7.         It will, of course, be remembered that the estimate  of 52 Squadrons was based on the assumption that the attack  would come from the eastwards except in so far as the defences  might be outflanked in flight.   We have now to face the  possibility that attacks may come from Spain or even from the North coast of France.   The result is that our line is very  much extended at the same time as our resources are reduced.   8.         I must point out that within the last few days the  equivalent of 10 Squadrons have been sent to France,  that the  Hurricane Squadrons remaining in this country are seriously  depleted,  and that the more Squadrons which are sent to France  the higher will be the wastage and the more insistent the demands for reinforcements.   9.         I must therefore request that as a matter of   paramount urgency the Air Ministry will consider and   decide what level of strength is to be left to the   Fighter Command for the defences of this country, and will  assure me that when this level has been reached, not one  fighter will be sent across the Channel however urgent  and insistent the appeals for help may be.   10.        I believe that, if an adequate fighter force is  kept in this country, if the fleet remains in being, and  if Home Forces are suitably organised to resist invasion,  we should be able to carry on the war single handed for  some time, if not indefinitely.   But, if the Home Defence Force is drained away in desperate attempts to remedy the  situation in France,  defeat in France will involve the  final, complete and irremediable defeat of this country.                         I have the honour to be,                                  Sir,                                 Your obedient Servant,                                                                                 Air Chief Marshal,                              Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief,                                 Fighter Command,Royal Air Force.

A moral victory - but defeat is still more likely than not

The quote of the day has to be from Peter Oborne (H/T Guido and the gang ):

“Very rarely in political history has any faction or movement enjoyed such a complete and crushing victory as the Conservative Eurosceptics. The field is theirs. They were not merely right about the single currency, the greatest economic issue of our age — they were right for the right reasons.”

The problem is that projects like the Euro and the EU have more in common with a Count Dracula tale than a court room drama. They are the undead.

You can win the moral argument, and a few months later those who lost will declare they won ( see Nick Clegg' assertion no one could have foreseen the Euro criss as a classic example ).

The Euro's not dead until its notes are being collected at banks and shoved into furnaces. And the EU won't die until we stop paying the BrusselGeld and shameless traitors like the LibDems stop trying to continually betray their country and sell it into slavery ( and yes there are plenty of similar people in Labour and the Conservative party's).

I wish it was really all over - but it isn't, not by a long shot.

This is just the beginning. You'll notice the gold price has been static as the markets fall and Greece's inevitable default comes very close.

Today is already priced in - the battle of tomorrow has yet to be entertained.

Why is the EU campaigning in the UK ?

Just found the shown advert in my copy of the economist. Given that its our taxes that fund the euro monster I find this objectionable and rather worrying.

What business does the EU have in our politics ?

There seems to be an attempt to declare the EU a non-issue with Conservatives in the press right now.

They are wrong and David Cameron would be making a bad mistake to think otherwise.
