No silliness due to Olympics

I'm afraid I've given up on silly week ( new job taking most of my time these days ) - but no reason anyone else couldn't take over next year.

#SillyWeek Tory austerity reponsible for stranding of pilot whales

#SpinningForTheTUC_Uncut today announced that the evil Tories and their kitten murdering refusal to create a debt crisis and destroy the lives of our children by enslaving them to debt have directly lead to the death of a pod of pilot whales just off Scotland.

The Pilot Whales, all members of the RMT, stranded themselves in protest against Austerity and to show their support for #RedEd and his Trade Union owners.

The BBC will be running this story on Evil Tories on Today ( 6am, 7am, 8am leading items ), radio 5 live, BBC News channel ( repeating each 30 mins ) and a special aren't the Tories evil edition of Newsround.

#SillyWeek: Mad Dog Al Nutter to lecture US & UK on fiscal responsibility

Dr Al Nutter, the Mad Dog of the desert, launched one of his 5 hour rants on Liabyan TV from an undisclosed bunker, but still sitting in his electric golf cart berating the US and other western infidels on there failure to balance the book.

Dr Al Nutter pointed out the following keys facts during his wide ranging lecture that also seemed to keep returning to the theme of hiring models and paying them to sit mostly undressed to hear his lectures on moral living:

  1. When he had committed acts of terrorism it had been "fully funded". He had never needed to borrow money from the Chinese to they pay them back again for the rare earth metals to put in some decadent over the horizon fire and forget Western guidance system.
  2. Even now, despite the efforts of the evil NATO he was more solvent than the entire Western world, just based on his Swiss bank account and a pile of Gold ( you can't trust the dollar these days ) he has buried away in the great desert.
Dr Nutter offered to return to the London School of Left Wing Economics, from which his honoury doctorate was purchased, and deliver another Dead Marxist lecture in memory of the Unions choice of leader of the Labour party there to explain how this "paying your way" thing actually works.

He only asked the Mr Ed Balls be kept out of the audience as he was as mad debt denier and completely beyond reason.

PS Just in case you don't get this - none of this is real, except perhaps the bit about Ed Balls ...

First innings

Strapping on the pads of #SillyWeek the following adventurous bloggers have walked up to the crease ( no baseball puns here - its not the Apprentice you know ):

The Tapeworm Diet - why have I never heard of this.
And so it begins - some word definitions.
How To Green Your House & Destroy The Planet - Jonathan Porritt look away now.
Not even trying - even google translate doesn't help here.
The origami bank has ...
The Aussie take on the work of their defected to the US son - very good, the sort of humour thats missing from our screens.
Just to show the Italians treat everyone the same - by closing when you go on holiday there...
Being a splendid Steam Punk - somehow missed in the first draft

I'd get a bit depressed if it was for the thought of #SillyWeek on Monday

Well things are grim.

First there's the horror in Norway and the almost unspeakable act of taking unarmed innocent lives whilst they are in a state of terror. Its bad when the Taliban and other Jihadist nutters do it, and its bad when other terrorists do it. Thankfully I believe in divine justice as well as temporal imperfect justice and unless those involved in these outrages repent and throw themselves on God's generous mercy through the sacrifice of his son then they can look forward to some real terror under his judgement.

Then there's been the reaction to all this, much of it opportunist anti free-speech stuff. Journalists use the excuse to swipe at bloggers, lefties use it to ban those they disagree with, and the EU uses it to set up a proto intelligence and internal repression unit. ( Which I am no doubt now listed with - so may as well say #EUSSR as my name is already "on zee list". )

Add to that the ongoing and ever deepening debt crisis.

Enough to make you weep - if it was for the thought of #SillyWeek starting tomorrow.

So cheer up ( there's not good reason for this - just do it anyway ) and for one week lets liven things up with a bit of humour and good cheer.

I've already seen one of two contributions, but I'll make my first official survey sometime on Monday.

Good luck everyone !

PS Since I'm always going of at my kids about what they watch on the internet I'm not going to be able to link to anything risqué - regardless of how funny it was Mr Big Dollop. Thanks to Google they'll be onto me.

The week that was ...

So the second #SillyWeek has passed. I'll add the full list of links to the end of this post, after a little more research.

All in all my favourite was perhaps the pilot - though its also a bit alarming, perhaps only funny if you weren't in the plane at the time. It reminds me of that Russian airline pilot who crashed his plane after letting his son have a go at the stick. The last words translated along the lines "bloody kids".

Of course reality will be outperforming all our efforts anyway. However humour's an important tool we perhaps use to little, especially political bloggers. Anger and outrage often motivate, but humour convinces and changes hearts and minds. A thought for the next political year that will really kick of in Sept.

#Sillyweek David Cameron calls on India to be allowed to join the EU

David Cameron today demanded that those who opposed India joining the EU were just racists and had underlying anti-Hindu/Muslim/Sikh/Christian prejudices. The fact that India has not applied to join the EU shows how strong such a backlash might be if anyone asked the question.

Mr Cameron is alleged to have said "India is on the same planet as Europe and there are clear historical and geological contacts between the two". Further he expanded his philosophy to say that the rest of the world was like a prison camp and should be free to join the EU and that anyone who opposed this idea didn't understand triangulation or appealing to voters in key marginals.

A rather bemused reported from the All India Telegraph was herd to mutter that the real issue would be the EU joining India, once population was taken into account, and that with all the unsound EU banks and dodgy accounts he wasn't sure India was ready to tie its future to such a corrupt third world economy.

Background notes.

Looks like Norwich City have just done something a bit silly

Oops - The new Norwich City kit seems to attract bugs. Norfolk blogger will be concerned....

Silliness waits for no man

So things are starting to get going out there. I'm adding links to the right as I find stuff - and there's a variety of daftness out there from the practical complaints about Italian magazine rapping, to escaped Nun yarns through to finally a good use for old toasters !

And they are not all there is - in part I've been a constrained by being frog marched out to a session of Laser Quest in very high humidity by the kids ( and somebody elses also ). The bad news is clearly my pack and gun were malfunctioning as all the kids beat me - which can't be right can it?

More exploitation by bored kids is to follow with a trip to the cinema to see the newly very expensive 3-D films.

So I'll have to pay to see it and no doubt buy the DVD later along with other merchandise - now that really is silly.

Anyway whatever your doing - its it involves a post for #SillyWeek - let me know. I'm going to try and work on a spoof one next - no idea what on yet... but I'll have a beer or two tonight to get the creative juices flowing.

Jane Austen - redux

H/T Today Daily Telegraph.

#SillyWeek The professionals are out of their blocks

Here we go its blogger's #SillyWeek ( why ? Well in truth just because it can be ).

But us amateurs have some stiff competition out there from the political professionals. See:

So its time to start spotting stuff or just making it up ( within the boundaries of any liable laws in jurisdictions you think might have a go at you ).

I could give you rules - but you'd only ignore them. Just can I suggest nothing gratuitously offensive or with a 18 /X label on please !

PS I'll be doing a search of blogs / tweets for the keyword #SillyWeek to see if there's anything to report later today ! ( So remember to use #SillyWeek as a tag on your post a tweets ! Hint: I think case sensitivity may be an issue with searches ! )

Two more days

2nd annual Blogger's Silly week is go for 26 July to 1 August

Its that time of year again. The MSM is on holiday ( or wish they were ) and any daft story gets coverage.

So its time for Blogger's Silly week.

The Aim is to Entertain ( whilst not being sued in any legal jurisdictions that your country has extradition treaties with ).

That means making stuff up and even reporting true stuff. ( Examples from last year here ).

Add #SillyWeek to any tweets and we may as well use it as a blogging keyword also ! ( I'll keep an eye on them and try to keep tags on the daftness here ).

Now to go in search for a logo this year ... ( any ideas gratefully received ).

PS The aim is to entertain, but not offend ( unless its politicians or the MSM of course ).

Update: I had a graphic - but for some reason I can't upload it on blogger right now. Must be a bug of some sort. OK managed to get it into the layout - but not the post. No idea why not.

The round up of Silly Week

Well that was that. Thanks to a large amount of unsolicited help ( the best sort ) things seem to have gone well for Silly Week. Special mentions in dispatches go to James Higham and GOT for their help in publicity - I know I'm missing out a few people but its harder than you think trying to track down what's being going on.

It turns out that being Silly is far more popular on this blog than being serious ( or at least trying ) - even when you get really cross ( which this blog is frequently ). However normal service will be resumed soon - though I might go a bit dark over August.

As I type this I still haven't finally decided who to award the Silly Film to.

My contenders are :

  1. Calling England - the Why boys need parents posts #1,2,3,4,5 &6 ( great theme - simple - and poignant all at the same time )
  2. The Final Redoubt - England 9 Scotland 3 - mostly because I'd never heard of it* - before I was born you see -, but it'll come in useful in the pub in future.
  3. A yodelling dominatrix - The Big Dollop ( what a find ! )
  4. Silly sayings - but which is which ? - Sicily Scene

I think I'll let you vote for the best ( see on the right shortly ).

*NB Just maybe the 9-3 thing was in "Only a world cup excuse" a fantastic bit of radio comedy by somebody like BBC Scotland. If you can find it online somewhere - go listen, its dry Scots comedy at its best.

Update: Congratulations to Calling England who tops the poll.

In the mean time this is the Silly Week that was:

Note: Some post will no doubt have been missed out here - itrs my fault, I'm sorry - but I really must get some work done !!

A very Silly film

Right - this is going to be the "reward" for the best contribution to Silly Week as determined by whatever method I dream up.

This film probably makes Battle Field Earth look good. It answers questions like what does Dinosaur taste like ( you already know the answer ) .

Jules Vern's estate should sue, and might Tolkien's - not for copying but for deformation.

What amazes me is that they get money to make this sort of thing ....

But it is very, very, ever so Silly... so there you go ... ( picked up at a school Fete for 20p or such ).

I'm going to make an intermittent update of the posts people have let me know about in comments sometime soon, and will then try to make a definitive guide post (a day or two later ). But the family is trying to drag me to the back of the house to do something called gardening so it may have to wait ...

Psychologists killed my hamster

Never mind Ozzy Osbourne as a threat to small rodents, or Freddie Star, its the psychologists you need to watch out for.

It appears that the psychoanalysis community have been dispatching hamsters. I mean just look at this - clearly someone has murdered and skinned a hamster ( mind you saying so might get me sectioned under the metal health act - now you know why its advisable to blog under a pseudonym).

These are of course the famous/infamous ink blots that are supposed to allow you to say something key but unguarded about yourself.

However I have a sneaking feeling its all a bit silly....

Anyway the physco mob is up in arms about the revealing of their magian's code by Wikipedia - which also strike me as a little silly. ( Are they not able to create more ink blots ? )

Thud.

PS If I have just revealed myself to be a complete nutter ( perhaps not a medical term ) then please let me carry on in blissful ignorance of the fact.
