More with less - not if the TUC and left can help it.
Public sector is 'riddled with the bone idle': Fire chief's devastating message to the TUC | Mail Online
This is the sort of thing Civil Serf used to tell us.
Of course the Unions and left hate it, which shows its not public services that they really care about.
Further: And lets not forget Lord Digby Jones comments about being able to do twice as much with half the people, and he was a member of a Labour govt !
And whilst were here lets not forget how well paid and looked after public servants civil servants are.

How much does a full page advert in the Economist cost ?
Because if your a UK tax payer you just bought one to say this ( click on it to get the full size, but be prepared top weep ):
This is where you tax payer's money goes.
There's plenty of scope for cuts lads and lasses.

The opportunity cost of Gordon Brown
Labour ministers bleat about public sector "investment", which means client state spending.
But what a poor return on these so called "investments" they achieve.
Because they spend today, you will pay tomorrow as it becomes very clear that these investments were just overhead that is wasted on consumption rather than capital investment (I don't mean capital spending here - they are very good at that ) or process improvement.
Its what I learn't in my 'O' level economics as opportunity cost.
Because Labour chose to hose cash on unreformed public services and finance it by borrowing future generations will have to pay interest on loans rather than spend the money on improving the NHS or education ( little of which has been done by Labour ).

Why Hatty Harperson is going to cost you money, lots of it
See this post by Neil Craig on his "A Place To Stand" blog for some indication as to why you pay so much in tax, and how Harriet "The Man Hater" Harman's plans to kill efficient business and punish men by removing their equal standing before the law and destroying their lives will also cost you money.
I know what he means I have a Laptop that when the same model was bought by a Cuncil in the North West for my sister in Law cost nearly double the price.

The cost of Gordon Brown's vanity - about £250k per job !!!
Brown has announced that he intends to tax us by an extra £10 billion. ( Borrowed from abroad mostly and paid back with interest over the decade to come ).
With this he thinks he will "create" 100,000 jobs.
The cost is therefore 10,000,000,000 / 100,000 = £100k per job.
Now government will get some of that money back in tax, and some will replace benefits that would otherwise have needed to be paid out.
But against this will be the fact that 90% of new jobs created go to immigrants from Eastern Europe. Since were talking plumbers etc here for the construction projects its seem reasonable to assume this will continue ( and cannot- despite the false promise of "British jobs for British workers"- be enforced by the government ).
So lets assume the govt get 50% back in tax, but only employs 20% UK citizens ( both assumptions generous to the government ). And also lets fall for the up to 100k new jobs spin line ( as is pointed out by Fraser Nelson - that includes zero ).
We get a cost to the Uk tax payer per UK citizen job of:
10,000,000,000 * 0.5 /( 100,000 * 0.2 ) = 250,000 per job.
That's right folks - Gordon's talking about £250,000 per "job created for UK Citizens".
OK these are rough figures and he'll be wasting some money on Govt IT projects and pie in the sky green schemes also, but you get the rough picture.
This is even worse return on tax payer money than his attempt to save Labour marginals by propping up Rover for a few more months in 2005.
And remember to pay for all this he's borrowing money in your name !

What is the DFID really up to ?
Conservative home has a speech by David Davies ( the Welsh one ) about DFID made in parliament. Its fine stuff and David Davis (the other one) looks like he'll go far.
Surely its time to question Labour's vanity projects in India and the like !To the left is a fine example of what India has money left to burn on.
See also a list of things India can afford and we can't here..

National Identity Scheme has no business case, government admits !!!!!
Ian Grant of Computer weekly reports:
- The government has, for the first time, admitted publicly that it cannot justify its controversial £5.4bn National Identity Scheme in financial terms.
The admission came from James Hall, chief executive of the Identity & Passport Service, in a response to the report from the scheme's external watchdog, the Independent Scheme Assurance Panel, published this week.
Hall said, "Many of these benefits [of the NIS] may be hard to quantify and potentially harder to articulate in financial terms within the scheme business case."
Full article here ...
Its a balls-up, its Labour, because its other peoples money ! They really think the government has its own money not ours - and they waste it on their own pet schemes and supporting their favoured projects and organisations.
Roll on the general election !
