The Queens speech - listening or spinning ?

As ever ever Her Majesty has shown us how lucky we are to have had her service to our country over all these years by performing her duties with the characteristic dedication and grace for which we all have cause to say God save the Queen for. ( And if you didn't get the point she brought Charles along to remind us all of the alternative. )

But what of her government ?

( By the way wouldn't it be great to hear our politicians showing some humility as describing that government as Her Majesty's Government and HMG again, rather than the republican The Government where those careerist parasites try to usurp the sovereign and nations authority with.)

There is supposed to have been some listening to the non-buoyant voters who defected surprisingly from the traditional parties to UKIP. So what do we have ?

No mention of redefining marriage - by the BBC reassured us breathlessly that ending everyone's marriage and replacing it with the redefinition by metropolitan elite diktat is going ahead anyway. Spin.

Stuff on making is hard to be an illegal immigrant - by forcing more red tape on private landlords , GPs and hospitals. I have some sympathy with the NHS stopping its abuse - but this doesn't even address the perfectly legal tidal wave of immigration that started under Labour and carries on today. It will have little impact beyond its intended purpose to put Labour politicians in opposition to Tory ones on the Today programme - talking about immigration. Spin.

HS2 to carry on - so the wealth destruction cycle continues with a scheme to cost billions just so a few left wing MPs can get to and from their constituencies a bit faster, rather than investing in job creating motorways. Spin and Epic Fail.

Bill to allow EU propaganda to be spread to her Majesty's subjects. This is serious - no spin here - this one's Treason.

George Osborne's tax payer funded housing bubble scheme to make everyone feel better by 2-015 at the cost of an even more unstable debt ridden economy. This should be a crime.

So I'm thinking mostly spin and an attempt to save the sorry parasitical careers of the professional politicians concerned.

Listening - even if they were able they clearly could never understand.

Brown and Labour's Canutist fallacy

Labour have, yesterday with the Queens speech, confirmed their intention of campaigning for themselves and not governing up to the general election.

Amongst the most obscene tricks they are trying to pull off are the raft of "Canute Laws", which command reality to behave as they wish it to in the future.

  • A Law can guarantee cancer treatment in a short period of time, when 12 years of a Labour government can't.
  • A Law can abolish child poverty, when 12 years of a Labour government can't.
  • A Law will reduce green house gas emissions, when 12 years of a Labour government can't.
  • A Law can guarantee a good education, when 12 years of a Labour government can't.
  • A Law can guarantee a reduced deficit, when 12 years of a Labour government couldn't.
Now I have to agree with Labour that they have failed on all these points, but the way they are desperately trying to put them right reveals the reason for their failure.

Labour believes in the narrative. They think if they say so then it is so. ( And attitude that helps explain the gutless kowtowing of their membership and MPs to "the right thing to do" edicts from their unelected leadership cabal).

This worked well for them as an opposition and when they were trying to just campaign not govern in the early Blair years. But its now a handicap as reality can no longer be ignore, spun or bullied into silence.

Reality is just a mystery to them. They don't understand why things haven't got better because their delusions refuse to allow them to consider the reasons.

This would all be a cause for pity if they weren't hurting and ruining so many peoples lives due to their dysfunctions.

Canute couldn't stop the tide because he commanded it and Labour can't change the country because they command it to.

The difference is that Canute was trying to make this point, and Labour never learnt it.

PS I'm not saying these things can't be done. But because Labour refuse to accept the nature of reality they are unable to find the ways to do them, which is why we need a Conservative government.

Update: Jeff Randall on a similar theme for the Fiscal Responsibility act. ( Jeff I suspect the reason fro Brown's act is to try to copy the Conservatives Fiscal Responsibility office idea and to make sure it doesn't sound radical in the coming election. )

Trading the national interest for a few more years in office

So the Queen's speech is in. Its not the occasion it used to be as Labour don't really like the monarchy or our country ( which it represents ). Hence the bad manners of Gordon Brown's pre-Queens speech announcements.

There were some measures that are half copies of Conservative ideas. Clearly the ever partisan Gordon Brown didn't want to leave the area of local control of the police standing out on a Conservative election manifesto. ( Lets be clear they are only proposing this as they don't want to leave a popular policy available to the opposition, but they don't believe in it. After all it would have happened about eight years ago if they did. )

There was a classic bit of muddling from Brown over Mortgages, which truly belonged in the emergency budget pre-budget statement ( another Brown ruse to get as many headlines out of each announcement as possible ). Who knows if it will work. Since the government has now purchased most of the main mortgage suppliers, it stood to lose out from repossessions twice - politically and economically. Maybe there is some sense in the idea ( as a Conservative I measure ideas on the effect not on who thought them up, we leave blind self interested partisan politics to the Labour party).

But the big message is the Queen's speech was short on bills. This means Labour is preparing for a general election soon. Either spring or summer.

On the Today programme at (about 4:20 into the clip I've referenced here) 4 Dec a pair of economists were being interviewed and one of them, (David B Smith I believe ) said:

"At some stage people in the international markets are going to decide this is a rerun of 1969 and 1976 we've got a totally feckless Labour government in charge of the British economy. Everything is being subordinated to fighting the next general election. Votes are being bought in the short term but in the long term are creating huge problems for the economy".

I couldn't have put it better myself.

We should all weep for our country and its misfortune at having the bunch of self interested selfish and ignorant charlatans who current lead Her Majesty's government.

Update: I hear the IMF is down to its last $100 billion. Much of which will be gone by the time Crash Gordon ploughs the economy into the deck after trying to buy the next election. The results of this scenario will be very real and horrific ( indeed people will die as a direct result ). The risk of a collapse of the UK's finances combined with no available rescue are much greater than anyone seems to e considering.
