I used to work with a guy named Fuad Ismael who immigrated from northern Iraq to California shortly after the Gulf War. He is a Kurd and a Muslim, although not devout (he doesn't attend mosques or pray a lot).

After the Iraq War wound down, he and his family moved back. I questioned that, but he said that his home country is his real home, in his heart, and it's hard to argue against that.

I lost touch with him, but I'm very concerned. He was a nice guy, and very smart, and now it appears that he and his family are in the midst of the ISIS atrocities. Odd as it sounds to say it, being a Muslim and not a Christian may keep him alive.

I told Fuad to start a Facebook page and Instragram account when he got there so I could keep in touch, but he didn't do it, so now I am left wondering what is happening.
