Hazel Blears will have to resign

If she really did allow government information on her constituency political computer, some of which is confidential, then she will have to go. The BBC report:

The machine contained a combination of constituency and government information which should not have been held on it.

The theft may mean the communities secretary has broken rules on the handling of restricted information. The Tories called it "alarming".

The government is to review guidance on the storage of restricted information.

Now the standard New Labour defence of all the data / secret document leaks so far has been to blame officials for not following procedures. ( Which has always struck me as a cop-out anyway. )

This leaves Hazel Blears with no honourable option left but to resign. But then honour hasn't been Labour's strong suit. This has shades of the infamous NHS heat maps showing government spending correlated with Labour party marginals that Hazel used to have under her coat.

I'm not sure we get the whole story over here, but I couldn't believe the way she immediately blamed her minions. I must still be naive at my age....
