Do you trust Gordon Brown on civil liberties ? 91% don't !

This article on AOL news is asking the question. The results so far are 91% don't !

The result so far... (12:30 17Jun08)

Results: Votes Per cent
Yes 174 9%
No 1,690 91%

That must be why he's taking the panicked 'always planned' decision to make a speech on civil liberties today.

Labour - they just do say whatever their focus groups tell them to say and then destroy the country by stealth when they've crushed the debate.

Update on No10 Shamelessness - see the following extract from the Press Assoc:

Mr Brown's speech came days after Conservative David Davis announced he was standing down as an MP in order to fight a by-election on the issue of civil liberties and shortly after 36 Labour MPs rebelled against the 42-day proposal.

Downing Street said that the speech was not intended as a response to Mr Davis, but declined to say whether it was in Mr Brown's diary before the MP's shock announcement last week.

Right - so its the usual disinformation, cowardice and spin then ....
