The sad and puzzling end of Mark Oaten

Not only has Mr Oaten failed to secure the support of his fellow MP's - hardly surprising given his right of center views - but he now has been forced to reveal a skeleton in his cupboard.

Firstly its a sad business to see any person brought down by personal weakness - if only because we all fear that we one day might make a mistake - there but for the grace of God go I ... etc etc..

But given that he knew the details how could he have expected to survive as Lib Dem leader ? Its a question that worth pondering, what possible explanation could there be ? Odd things are going on with the Lib Dens. Strange donations - a leader who everyone must have known needed to go and now someone who knew they were doomed standing for the leadership - which would certainly destroy them.

What's going on ?

And now for England

Today Lord Baker puts forward a motion in the house of Lords to allow for English votes on English matters. Labour ( and especially Gordon Brown ) are running scared here.

Their plan to carve England into regions failed - along with much else Prescott has been in charge of.

My predictions are as follows:

There will not be a Conservative Gov.t in Wales or Scotland in the next 25 years.
There will not be a majority Labour Gov.t in England in the next 10-15 years - if an English parliament is created.

This is not a trade Celtic MPs will make - but what about you Mr Cameron ?

Gordon's in favour of Gordon and if that means being British today then he'll say it.

So Gordon Brown thinks a British National day would be a good idea. Could this be related to his representing a Scottish constituency and voting on English laws which would not get through without the Celtic mercenary vote ? Could it be he's finally realised that the West Lothian question would make him a illegitimate prime minister ?

Gordon you supported the Scottish parliament -no go an sit in it and leave us English to vote on our own laws and to keep our own money.

Please please please let it be Mark Oaten ...

Lets hope that Mark Oaten gets elected by the Lib Dens - because its game over for them if he does. Mr Oaten holds views that would make him a welcome member of the Conservative Party - and Mark if you don't win you could always try www.libdems4cameron.com. You need those sort of views if your going to hold a seat like Winchester.

However, the rest of the be-sandaled brigade don't share them at all. In fact they loath them like a teenager being told he can't have another GBP20 to go out with his friends. Being a Lib Den(ial) is all about the impossible dream - wishing all sort of wonderful and sometimes weird ends, but never wishing the means. Clearly Mr Oaten has more trouble with this double think than the rest of his party - but they're no going to love him for it.

However - Mr Oaten has also become the Charles Kennedy official revenge candidateTM - so might just get in ! ( If he has enough MPs to back him to get on the ballot ).

What fun - the left leaning Lib Dens and their own right leaning Tony Blair - its got to mean quality entertainment !

So go on you sandals - vote Oaten !

Bye bye Charlie

OK so adolescence has hit the Lib Dems as they finally call last orders on chat show Charlie.

Like most people I feel sympathy with Charles Kennedy - but don't agree with the groveling spin put on by some Lib Dem MPs on TV that his announcement was courageous. Come on - it was a last calculated role of the dice, one he was always going to loose but its ensured he's taken his party with him.

Perhaps the party should be called the Lib Den(ial) party - as there are a number of points they just can face up to:

1) The are split between the left wing woolly side ( the beards ) and the clever realistic group who never had the moral courage to join the Conservative party ( the talent ) which is where most of their ideas have their normal home.
2) The needs of the areas of outstanding Gov.t subsidy in the Wales and Scotland where their party is strongest have completely different interests to the South of England where there MPs are. They can only pull this of if the people of middle England never find out what they actually stand for.

Hence the wish just to crown Ming ...

The Lib Dens are despised by the Tory's and Labour for their hypocrisy and janus like double standards - lets have an election so the wider public can come to that conclusion also ...
