A secure US only area on a Royal Navy aircraft carrier ?
Just reading about the ongoing issue about whether to put catapult and arresting gear on the new UK carrier or not.
In the article on the Telegraph they talk about he ship having an area closed to UK personnel for US military personnel only. This seems to be mentioned in passing.
It strikes me that this is extremely odd and I can't see the US allowing the Royal Navy the same facilities in return.
The US Navy clearly view the new carrier as a sort of reserve capability.
This implies all sort of deals have been done behind closed doors. It is highly likely that US technology has been used in the design of the aircraft carrier and perhaps this is part of the deal.
Whatever there is a very clear issue over sovereignty and I don't remember this ever being debated.

Questions need to be asked in the House about this.
I shall be writing to my local MP but I don't think I'll see much action from Mrs. Balls.
Her hubby and her are too closely involved with the Buffty frae Kirkcaldy who signed the original deal.
Reverting to jump jets for both of them would not help American military planners, who want to be able to base a squadron of their own jets on a British carrier.
Seems to answer the question.
Damned right there's an issue of sovereignty, so where's the leader we need to assert ours?
It may be this has something to do with the control of US nuclear weapons. NATO forces have in the past had US nuclear weapons stored near then to be released to NATO aircraft etc in the event of the balloon going up.
Not that this makes it all right.
So it could be US or UK nuclear capable aircraft armed with US weapons but under US control for release for use. ( This is all 100% speculation. )
