Is something up ?

There are reports of the MOD buying up riot gear and tear gas and of military personnel being asked if they would fire on UK citizens.

Rumour, maybe.

But what would cause such unrest ?

Remember the miners strike of 25 years ago and poll tax where handled by the police.

What could cause such unrest that the Army would need to be drafted in and potentially need to fire on civilians ?

Personally I just don't buy the economic / banking crisis argument. Its bad - there may be demonstrations, big ones and maybe violent like the mayday protests. But the police can cope.

What would cause the need for such emergencies ? Here's my list:

    1) The Asteroid threat. Ok one just passed, but maybe there's more.
    2) A Pandemic is already under way, but news being suppressed.
    3) Declaration of a state of emergency, perhaps as a prelude to European Government ( this is the case where the loyalty of military forces would be most in question ).
    4) A wider ranging Nuclear, Chemical and Biological war/attack is expected - maybe focused on the Middle East.
Okay everyone getting jumpy these days, but that doesn't mean nothing is cooking.

Time for the tinfoil hats, or do we take it seriously?

Good day to get angry about savings!

Hyper-inflation and a general economic collapse - they're now trying "Quantitative Easing", a.k.a. rolling the printing presses and just printing money.

Weimar Germany, Zimbabwe, etc., didn't deliberately set out to cause hyper-inflation and the destruction of their currencies. But the Road to Hell is paved with good intentions. This is just another blindfold step towards the cliff edge.

Followed you here from the Tom Harris blog.

http://www.1party4all.co.uk/Home/Account/TopicForm.aspx?topicsId=104

has recommendations on what to do about single mummery inviting your comment.

(a) deprive a single mother of child benefit if she cannot produce a marriage certificate
(b) fine the single mother for producing an illegitimate baby, say £1000, if she does not name the father
(c) require her parent(s) to pay this sum if she cannot or will not
(d) fine the father of an illegitimate child a sum of money, say £1000
(e) require the parent(s) of that father to pay this sum if he cannot pay it himself
(f) require that the mother give up the child for adoption before more lives are ruined

@Culy15 - I nearly put a picture of a chap with a tin foil hat ( and one for his cat ) in the post ! ( But then got worried about copyright etc ). As I've said elsewhere - the problem is that so much of this is so far outside of our experience that we don't really know what is going on.

@wildgoose - this is a scary time. Many of my friends, in different industries, have lost their jobs in the last few months.

What really worries me is how much the govt may know about what's coming. I can't get Alistair Darling's unguarded comments from after his Summer holiday out of my mind. We all though he was wildly negative at the time - but it appears he was well briefed ( but not about the banks ). I think some people know a awful lot more than they are letting on.

@Androda - My point to Tom Harris is that now he's discovered reality he may also discover he's in the wrong party.

I was particularly interested in a another comment on Tom Harris's blog about a councillor reporting how people who live in the areas with the most problems blame the availability of council goodies, not poverty and certainly not the lack of technical knowledge about sex.
