Can't happen here !

I was do a search for some background on a post based on the trouble in Kenya and also our own food production issues.

It took me back to 1981 and Rainbows track "Can't happen here" - lyrics below. The Youtube video is worth watching as it shows the things people were worried about at the time;
1) Oil tankers.
2) Gasoline being too expensive / running out.
3) Population explosion.
4) Resources running out.
5) Nuclear war.

Some of these issue have become less to the fore - and it reminds us that all the doom predicted usually doesn't come to pass ( not that it will stop my next post ).

Contaminated fish and micro chips
huge supertankers on Arabian trips
oily propaganda from the leaders' lips
all about the future
there's people over here, people over there
everybody's looking for a little more air
crossing all the borders just to take their share
planning for the future

Supersonic planes for a holiday boom
Rio de Janeiro in an afternoon
people out of work but there's people on the moon
looking for the future
concrete racktracks nationwide
juggernauts carving up the countryside
cars by the million on a one way ride
using up the future
