Virgin media pull the plug on Sky 1

This has been in the UK media for a while. Virgin media and Sky have been having a row over paying to run Sky's basic channels via the UK cable system.

In short Virgin media may have had a point on Sky asking for too much - however Sky one was one of the main reasons for having cable, which is otherwise an expensive way of getting most of what Freeview gives you anyway.

I was half way though the latest 24 season and Battlestar Galatica ( don't snigger - its great stuff, sort of Star Wars and the West Wing combined ). Now I'll have to wait for the boxed sets.

So I'm not a happy bunny. I pay Virgin Media about GBP 180/year for the cable ( removing telephone replacement cost at BT basic rate ). I'm pushed to see what I get for it now.... which means it may be time for me to pull the plug on Virgin.

Update: A summary of the dispute is available by Tom Douglas over at the BBC (whom may be excused for enjoying all this ) here ..

I've used a mix for some years.
I originally took on cable for my telephone and television but got tired off their promises to put together a TV package to suit me. So I kept the telephone and Broadband and went Sky for TV. I'm upgrading to Sky plus shortly.
Now that Sky are offering free Broadband I got a 50% reduction in my cable Broadband price under threat of moving although I'd be reluctant to have a BT line which Sky Broadband requires.

I AM IN THE SAME BOAT, IM MISSING STARGATE, GALACTICA 24, BONES ETC... I HAVE NOW CANCELLED AND I AM GETTING SKY IN FOR £15 A MONTH. ALL THIS BECAUSE VIRGIN REFUSED TO PAY AN EXTRA 21p PER WEEK, I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO PAY AN EXTRA £1 A MONTH AND VIRGIN WOULD HAVE STILL MADE A BIT PROFIT

Steve - quite !

I have a work deadline over the next week or two - but then I'll look at cancelling Virgin. I may buy box sets of my favourite TV shows ( BSG and 24 ) rather than go with Sky. I'm on a budget as I'm self employed and the business hasn't really taken off yet.
