Surely this woman can be given a visa extension

There is something very wrong with our government if it is unable to issue a visa extension to Olivia Hayes whom is Australian, pregnant, recently married and whose father in law has terminal lung cancer. She surely will gain British citizenship anyway under current rules. I have no problem with the immigration department insisting on proper procedure and her being made to leave the UK to reapply - but surely a visa extension can be issued for the current circumstances.

I have personal experience, when acting for a friend, of the sheer malevolent incompetence in the Immigration Department's decision making. Compassion is clearly not entered in as a factor.
