Join the 21st centenary - surrender your mind

I'm getting a little fed up of the lazy implicit assumption I keep hearing from some of those who are arguing for social innovations, and changes.

Those making them often make statements like "Which centenary do they think this is ? ", "This is the 21st centenary" or some sort of disparaging remark about "Victorian values".

This is often presented as the clinching argument.

The problem is its no argument at all - its just an invitation to surrender to the mob.

I do wish that some of those Guardian reading left wing interviewers on the BBC would challenge these lazy assertions, but then I doubt they see their job as exploring issues and facilitating debate.

Modernising is the new Tory leadership word for;

1) Creating a broad coalition which will return the Conservative party to power for the purpose of carrying out Conservative policies.

2) Creating a broad coalition which will return the Conservative party to power for the purpose of putting its leaders into office.

3) Telling your long term supporters that your fairly sure they have no where else to go, and they are old, out of touch and will be dead soon anyway.

4) Being wet.

We'll find out soon enough.
