Time to govern, time to choose

"If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done quickly."

"To govern is to choose."

George Osborne and the coalition need to take both bits of advice into account today.

Its going to hurt and it needs to be swift. All of Europe has now ditched Labour's insane debt apocalypse plan ( and is grateful not to have Gordon Brown lecturing them from the Kirkcaldy telephone directory on it at international meetings ) - only the self interest of selfish Labour party careerist leadership candidates defy reality any further.

Yes it will hurt - but Labour are to blame - but they will never accept responsibility. Which just adds wilful deceit to their other crimes against our nation.

I'm away around the time the emergency budget is read out. And I'm one of the people who has real things to lose in it all - but they were lost by Labour and George now has to choose and act quickly.

How did Labour screw up so badly on computer systems - the answers simple

Today there are articles asking how Labour managed to blow tens of billions of pounds on dysfunctional computer and IT projects.

The answers are simple, and all the more depressing for it:

  1. The consultants saw New Labour coming. Some firms that had been banished from government by the Conservative administration saw New Labour as their way back.
  2. Labour minister wanted to believe in their own narrative and mission to modernise. They were guilty of wishful thinking. As such a sales by the IT industry were easy.
  3. The government lacked the skills to manage these contracts and kept interfering.
  4. They lacked any actual knowledge or experience of these types of projects. Anyone who has studies software engineering knows that most public software projects fail - indeed the vast majority.
  5. And last, but not least, someone else was paying ( the poor tax payer ).

"I think it's essential that Labour wins the next election for the sake of the country," Gordon Brown

Personally I subscribe to the opposite view.

Why should anyone believe they have the answer for the future when its now a simple matter to demonstrate they either they had no idea what they were doing since 1997, or they have worked deliberately to bring the countries economy to its knees ( take you pick, because both interpretations fit ). Even Blair says the period of economic stability was luck ( we'll it was worse than that - it was false and borrowed on the future, a debt we are all now picking up ).

Surely even Labour supporters can see that Gordon Brown is deluded ?

Trading the national interest for a few more years in office

So the Queen's speech is in. Its not the occasion it used to be as Labour don't really like the monarchy or our country ( which it represents ). Hence the bad manners of Gordon Brown's pre-Queens speech announcements.

There were some measures that are half copies of Conservative ideas. Clearly the ever partisan Gordon Brown didn't want to leave the area of local control of the police standing out on a Conservative election manifesto. ( Lets be clear they are only proposing this as they don't want to leave a popular policy available to the opposition, but they don't believe in it. After all it would have happened about eight years ago if they did. )

There was a classic bit of muddling from Brown over Mortgages, which truly belonged in the emergency budget pre-budget statement ( another Brown ruse to get as many headlines out of each announcement as possible ). Who knows if it will work. Since the government has now purchased most of the main mortgage suppliers, it stood to lose out from repossessions twice - politically and economically. Maybe there is some sense in the idea ( as a Conservative I measure ideas on the effect not on who thought them up, we leave blind self interested partisan politics to the Labour party).

But the big message is the Queen's speech was short on bills. This means Labour is preparing for a general election soon. Either spring or summer.

On the Today programme at (about 4:20 into the clip I've referenced here) 4 Dec a pair of economists were being interviewed and one of them, (David B Smith I believe ) said:

"At some stage people in the international markets are going to decide this is a rerun of 1969 and 1976 we've got a totally feckless Labour government in charge of the British economy. Everything is being subordinated to fighting the next general election. Votes are being bought in the short term but in the long term are creating huge problems for the economy".

I couldn't have put it better myself.

We should all weep for our country and its misfortune at having the bunch of self interested selfish and ignorant charlatans who current lead Her Majesty's government.

Update: I hear the IMF is down to its last $100 billion. Much of which will be gone by the time Crash Gordon ploughs the economy into the deck after trying to buy the next election. The results of this scenario will be very real and horrific ( indeed people will die as a direct result ). The risk of a collapse of the UK's finances combined with no available rescue are much greater than anyone seems to e considering.

What about to 60k UK Citizens stranded abroad ?

My first thoughts on hearing of the collapse of XL were thank goodness I don't do package holidays. ( The memories from my childhood of early morning flights, always delays and dodgey holiday reps and food are still too fresh ). I've slept in airports - thankfully without toddlers and a dimising supply of cash and nappies !

But what about the 60 thousand people still stranded.

It is a sign of the utter interversion of our politicians ( I'm afraid my party is included here ) that nothing is being said, and less done.

Gordon and the Labour party are navel gazzing in a weird mexican stand off.

Nick Clegg is jumping on the ultimate band wagon ( because thats what the BBC would have its beloved Vince Cable on all day saying if this was the Tories ) of cutting back the state and lowering taxes - to save the 2/3 of his MPs who he's going to lose to Cameron.

And I'm afraid the Cosnervatives are just enjoying the Lab and Lib Dem self destruction shows too much.

So 60k people are stranded, with costs accuring to them at staggerying rates, still waiting to come home. And their government has done nothing ....

Apparently its left to the CAA to sort the mess out.

The truth is that the professional political class don't go on package holidays and don't give a monkey's about the people who do.

( Ok I know everyone's eying the stocket market today - and I'm losing money as we speak - but paying an extra £300/seat for a family of 5 to get home is going to wreck your budget and ruin your whole day for a lot of people too ).

Essex prepares ....

Busy day today, so I refer you to Jeff Randall in today's Telegraph for an analysis of the news soon to be delivered from Essex man.

As I pointed out earlier in some parts of Essex Labour is being pushed into 4th place behind the English Dems and Lib Dems - with the Conservative vote heading in by the ton.

Essex is the home of the can do attitude in this country. When I brought my then fiancée (now wife) down from Scotland I tried pointing out to her how every house was different on the streets as we approached my old home in Rayleigh. Why ? Because everyone had put their mark on their house - extensions, drives, you name it people did it. The results may look a little chaotic, but they display a strong streak of individual self reliance and personal pride.

Well Essex man is now smelling bullshit - and its coming from No10 - expect an appropriate and forthright response.

The fury is building

The Sun has truly set on Gordon. Never mind Cherie Blair, Frank Field, Lord Levy or Charles Clarke.

Read Trevor Kavanagh in the Sun, hat tip to Conservative home for flagging it up. The dam which has been holding back the fury of the public has burst. Now a major popular paper is explaining in clear terms what Labour has done to our country.

On this basis Labour is doomed.
