John Major would have had the guts to face down his critics.

I was listening to an expert on US politics on the radio this morning as the implications of the defeat of Cameron & Clegg's government were being discussed.

She expressed surprise that Cameron conceded so much after the vote, rather than keeping his options open as parliament had very much left UN options open.

But of course what she didn't see was that Cameron's first priority was saving his own political skin. Hence all the parliament / the country have spoken and I've heard stuff.

John Major presented with rebellion or challenge to his govt took the fight straight to the pub car park with a confidence vote and a leadership battle - as appropriate. 'Come on if you think you're hard enough' - was his message to his critics.

Not Cameron. John Major was a man of his convictions. Cameron is just a boy trying to hold onto his job.
