Banning political groups like Islam4UK
Just a short note to say I'm a bit worried about this new trend to ban groups by the home secretary. Just as I am for marches to be banned.
Groups like Islam4UK may be repulsive, but we aspire to live in a society which allows opinions to be expressed, debated and accepted or rejected as an individual wishes ( though Labour's existing and planned Equality legislation is steadily eroding this and setting up an oppressive state ).
Who will be next to be banned ?
The authorities will be desperate to even up the score by banning something outside the Islamic community.
These laws and precedents are far too arbitrary and will end up being used against all of us at some later date.
And of course finally banning Islam4UK will have no impact. Another organisation will spring up ( indeed given how predictable all this is the people concerned probably have a raft of them in their back pockets ).
This measure is purely about politics of the lowest sort.

So long as they don't break the law they shouldn't be banned, though I doubt groups like Islam4UK have our best interests at heart.
If they are going down that path though, they certainly ought to ban UAF as they've been behind most of the trouble against groups such as the EDL and the BNP, neither of whom though I disagree with what they are doing have actually broken any laws either.
It's a difficult one, isn't it? "I disagree with what you say but will defend your right to say it", etc. I think it's worrying too. The trouble is, freedom assumes that people are reasonable.

I agree with you in principle. This one though was a deliberate stab at the heartland of this country, it did dirt on it.
The last thing Islam4UK should have got out of this was more publicity - Alan Johnson, you are a moron.
@James - I agree it was objectionable, much like when you had left wing troops out campaigns and Sinn Fein being welcomed by certain Labour party politicians.
But then the Islamicists calibrated the insult to provoke and got what they wanted:

And they have shown that we are selective in how we stand by our principles ( a key claim of fanatics like this bunch - who see themselves as holy and righteous ).

By coincidence I was in Wootton Basset on the day of the repatriation. It was very sad to see the mourning families.
But then I thought of the mourning families among the Pashtun villagers, on soil that we have invaded and occupy.
