Being held back a year

I like David Cameron's idea of holding kids back a year at primary as I've seen it work in practice in the private sector, in the state sector - with my son who due to his autism had real problems in school to start with, and of course on Red Dwarf where it made the difference ( in parallel universes of course) between first technician Rimmer and test pilot/general hero 'Ace' Rimmer of the space corps (what a guy).

It would also provide a real incentive for performance. The Dutch do something similar in their secondary school sector. Try being cool not to learn when your risking being held back a year !
