The Glasgow Herald's little Scots

No doubt this will upset some - but when is the Glasgow Herald and its correspondents going to grow up ?

Last week was full of whinging about preventing the good people of Scotland from having a British news programme ( with a call for the 'Scottish Six' ) and yet more complaints that some residents in Scotland travel through England to go on holiday rather than traveling in an alternative ferry from somewhere on the forth.

What's really sad about these dripping complaints is that they will probably have the impact they request as no one ( or the Herald doesn't publish them ) is willing to stand up to the little Scotlanders.

I used to live in Scotland as was always struck by the mindless acceptance of anything with the word Scot in front of it. For a country that gave so much to the world, and who's people traveled so widely in that world, to be so inward looking is shameful.

I believe its only a small minority that create the impression - but its the silence of the majority and the self serving Glasgow/Edinburgh media's bias that allows that voice to be heard unchallenged.

Has David Cameron reached escape velocity ?

Its looking like David Davis might concede if he falls below Cameron significantly in Thursdays ballot. ( Of course this should not be just taken at face value - perhaps its an attempt to squeeze the Fox vote - the implied threat that vote Fox ( seen on the right of the party ) get Cameron ( seen on the left).

Who knows - probably very few people for sure.

David Cameron is a risk - but the conservative party is already being written off for the next election, so risks are needed.

Hence whilst ideologically I might support Fox/Davis - I'd vote Cameron for the good of the country and party. The choice looks like Cameron for PM or Fox/Davis for leader of the opposition.

Hence the Man in the Shed is declaring for Cameron... now lets see where the chips fall.

Clarke falls at the first hurdle

The BBC reports Ken Clarke is out. Fox is going to have to gun for Davis.. going to be interesting...

Final orders Mr Clarke .. its drinking up time ...

So its Tory( sorry conservative ) leader election time again. The party conference has been real fun this year, and has holed David Davis below the water line ( but he's patching as fast as he can) and shot David Cameron to the front.

But what its really done is kill Ken Clarke off. Now I admire Ken Clarke - on election night many MP's like to be filmed in the pub (=bar in Amercian) holding a pint of beer and being just an ordinary bloke ( sorry not sure of the American here - regular guy perhaps ? ). However if you look closely you'll see most of them have just been nursing their pints having sipped the first 1cm ( less than 1/2 inch yanks ) on the self important possibility that they might get interviewed on TV.

Not Ken - his pint is empty and it may not have been his first of the evening. This is because he doesn't need to think of how to spin things - he's just going to tell it like he sees it anyway and as long as his speech isn't slurred ( more than his personal style requires) theres not greater PR risk. ( If you don't believe me see what he had in his glass when delivering budgets to parliment. )

However its this straight talking and the gap between his opinions on Europe and the rest of the Conservative party that means he has to go. Sorry Ken ....

So he's my prediction for the first eviction from the Big Tory house...
